Bacteriostatic Water for Injection USP is a sterile, nonpyrogenic solution containing 0.9% benzyl alcohol as a preservative. Designed for pharmaceutical compounding, it functions as a diluent for reconstituting and diluting injectable medications for intravenous (IV), intramuscular (IM), and subcutaneous (SQ) administration. The benzyl alcohol preservative system inhibits bacterial growth, permitting safe multi-dose vial use with repeated withdrawals when proper aseptic technique is maintained. This distinguishes it from single-use, preservative-free sterile water formulations. The bacteriostatic mechanism extends vial shelf life and utility while preserving sterility and chemical stability throughout the product's designated use period, provided standard aseptic handling protocols are followed.
